Weekend Happenings

There's lots of stuff going on Downtown tomorrow morning.

First up is the One Heart for Justice event.  Activities begin at 8am in Twin Springs Park.  (Click here for more info.)  One of the activities taking place is Siloam Springs very first half-marathon!  I've got a couple of friends who will be running, so I'm planning on heading out to cheer them on.

Farmer's Market will be in full swing in City Park from 8am-1pm.  I'm eager to pick up some fall veggies to roast and put in soups!

This week I learned John Brown University's campus newspaper featured an article about our Farmer's Market.

Second Saturdays at the Farmer's Market

There's all kinds of stuff going on Downtown on Saturday.

It's Kid's Day at the Farmer's Market.  Main Street Siloam Springs is happy announce that the Benton County Master Gardeners at the Farmers Market group is expanding their programming to the Siloam Springs Farmers Market!  Come to Kids Day Saturday, August 11th to participate in their excellent programming! There will be a butterfly craft, information about the drought/heat wave, and much more!

 After (or before) the kiddos have fun, check out what you could win!  You could win a beginners canning kit complete with water bath, a set of jars, a jar lifter and an instruction booklet. Just spend $5 dollars at either Busy Bee Farms or the Bread Basket to have your name entered in the Raffle! A name will be draw at the end of August.

Things should be a bit cooler this weekend, so make plans to head to the Farmer's Market.

Saturday is coming...

Saturday is going to be a fun day Downtown!  

It's Second Saturdays!

Things get started with Kids' Day at the Farmer's Market.  Along with the bouncy house and other kid-themed activities, there will be some pygmy goats to pet.  Sounds fun to me!

For those of you who head to the Farmer's Market simply for vegetables, parking can be a bit tricky on special event days.  Here's a tip: Get there before 9am; the market opens at 8, so you'll have an hour to shop.  Besides, it's cooler and there is more to choose from.  When the park starts filling up with the kiddos, head to one of the Downtown cafes for a morning coffee and pastry.

I'm quite sure the shops up and down Broadway and University Streets will have Second Saturday specials, so remember to stop in.

The day will end with a Second Saturdays concert in the park.  This month fiddler Betse Ellis will headline with an opener from Two Cents Worth.  According to the newspaper, crowds are expected.  Admission is free, but donations are welcomed.  Bring a chair and enjoy the music.  Things get started at 7:30.

Ballard Bakery has been baking up some yummy stuff!

Here are some of their options from last week.

Ballard Bakery often shares a table with Lady Hester's Pretzels and More.

Which reminds me...I'm signing off on this post right now...

Because I need to track Lady Hester down and order more homemade corn tortillas!  

You can order yours here.  Tell her how many tortillas you want, and then pick them up at the next Farmer's Market.

Farmer's Market

Some of my favorite veggies are finally in season at the Farmer's Market. Tomatoes, zucchini, beets, and bell peppers made their way into my basket on my latest visit.

Most fun of all was the jar of plum jam.  YUM!  It's the perfect thing to top all the fresh bread being sold these days.  Jam + bread = perfect.  :-)  The Farmer's Market is open from 8am-1pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays in City Park.

Farmer's Market is the Place to Be

As the weather warms up, the Farmer's Market only gets better! 

This past Tuesday morning we sampled Lemon Rolls and Cinnamon Rolls from BlueEye's Bakery.  YUM!

We picked up zucchini and tomatoes from one of our favorite farmers.

He had beautiful flowers along side the veggies.

My friend Joy is baking wheat bread, and it looks and smells delicious!

Some sweet girls were selling dolls all made from re-purposed materials.  They are truly works of art.

Swing by Saturday morning, rumor has it there might be fresh plum jam for sale.

New Sign

Have you seen the new Farmer's Market sign in the park?

And yes, that's Tim from Tim and Jeff in the Morning on 105.7.  They were in town last week because Siloam Springs was town of the week!  I think they were shown a pretty good time.

Farmer's Market Dinner

The other night our dinner was pretty much entirely from the Farmer's Market. 

We had sourdough bread from The Bread Basket along with roasted potatoes and broccoli and stir-fried bok choy.

It was fresh and yummy!

Head to the Farmer's Market this morning and see if you can make a meal from the Farmer's Market.

Tuesday is Farmer's Market Day

It's been warm around here lately!  Whew!  I thought summer had come early.

Thankfully today things were a bit cooler.  Tomorrow will be as well, so head outside and swing by Downtown for the Farmer's Market.  It's open from 8am-1pm each and every Tuesday (and Saturdays, too!).

The chard has been beautiful!

Sourdough bread is perfect for toasting.

Tender lettuces are perfect with a drizzle of homemade ranch dressing.  YUM!

We've been roasting our broccoli until the tips are crunchy and then squeezing a lemon over the warm veggies.  Delicious!

Snow peas are delightful for an afternoon snack.

PS: Saturday, May 12th is Kids' Day at the Farmer's Market.  There will be extra fun activities for the kiddos including a bounce house!

Yum-Yum

We noticed a new booth at the Farmer's Market and decided to pay a little visit. 

All kinds of delicious looking baked goods were to be found.  All baked by the friendly folks at Yum-Yum's. 

We picked out three treats and headed home for a taste test.

Cranberry White Chocolate Scones were most certainly yum-yum!

As were the Scottie cookies.

But then we tried the MegaChip cookie.

They got a yum-yum, yum-yum at my house!  Oh my.  So very good!

Perhaps you'd better swing by the market and grab a tasty treat.

Please, just save a MegaChip cookie for me.

Saturday morning the 2012 Farmers' Market opened! 

We headed Downtown for some fresh veggies, granola, honey, and herb plants.

The Farmers' Market is open Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 8am-1pm.

Lots of yummy foods and neat crafts!

Weekend Plans

Do you have weekend plans yet? Nope? Me neither.

With the start of school, this week got a bit crazy for some of us.

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when you're ready to think about the weekend.

A blow out sale!

Stop by and stock up on cute kid clothes and accessories.

Remember to swing by the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning.  On Tuesday I picked up three different colors of tomatoes--red, orange, and yellow.  They made a bright and colorful pasta salad.

Weekend Plans

This weekend is the Annual Heritage Festival in City Park.  This event is a wonderful way to learn about our local history.  There is a ton going on on Saturday at the festival.  Click here for all the info.

Remember to head to Farmer's Market for your fresh veggies and lots of other good stuff!  Below are some pictures I took of non-veggie items available there.  I find flowers to be one of the bright spots of summer.

Saturday

My family and I have been busy lately.  Hence my absence on the web.  With all the business, we're ready for a break.  Lucky for us, there's a TON going on Downtown this Saturday.  It's time for fun!

Get your morning started with a cup of coffee or tea from Pour Jon's before heading over to the 34th Annual Fishing Derby (begins at 7:30am).  My boys love this annual event.  Stay for Farmer's Market (opens at 8am).  It's Kids' Day this Saturday, so be sure to bring them along.  The scavenger hunt (with prizes) along with other activities begin at 10am.

You'll probably be hot, thirsty, and hungry after playing and picking out vegetables and granola at the market, so head to Cafe on Broadway next.  They've got cold drinks and yummy lunches!

Then it's rest time.  :-)  Stop by the Library and pick up a few books before heading home.

If resting isn't your thing (it's certainly not mine!), perhaps a little shopping is in order...  Amy's Closet, Four Corner Frames, Amandromeda.  Local Flair,  Two Gals Junk, Siloam Flowers and Gifts, and more!

Time for dinner!  Fratelli's or Emelia's are both good choices!  Grab a dessert to go and head out for the evening activities...

*There's a play at the Sager Creak Art Center.  The Kitchen Witches is playing this weekend.

*Second Saturday Music is in the park!  Yay for Cobb Brothers Bluegrass Band!

Bodies tired and memories full of fun, it will be time to head for home.  Rest up, though, because there's always something happening on Broadway Street!

Weekend Plans

This weekend we're supposed to have beautiful weather. Why not head down to the Farmer's Market (open 8am-1pm) before heading to Pour Jon's for a quick lunch. I've heard they now serve sandwiches! I need to get over there and check things out.

After lunch, why not head on over to the low water bridge.

I took my boys over there earlier this week.  It's so nice to have a sidewalk; it makes watching the water much safer.  Can you see the debris left by the high water from the storms?  Crazy!

Bridges to Wellness announces a call to action for children, families and the community

 WELLFEST! is a celebration of physical activity and the pursuit of great health.  Most importantly WELLFEST! is a collection of fun activities and games to encourage participants to rediscover the joys and benefits of being physically active.

WELLFEST! will include:

·        FamilyFun Challenge course complete with Hula-Hoops, Jumping Jacks, Jump Rope, Hop Scotch, and more

·        5KRun Race and 1 Mile Fun Run through beautiful downtown Siloam Springs
·        5K& 10K Bicycle rides showcasing Siloam Springs
·        Ultimate Frisbee games, where novices can learn the game
·        Fresh Start for those of us who are re-entering an active life and want gentle exercise options such as Yoga, Taekwondo Gentle Calisthenics

·        Culinary Delights. Cooking demonstrations will be held to show participants how greatfood can taste good too!
