New Sign

Have you seen the new Farmer's Market sign in the park?
Pretty cool!
And yes, that's Tim from Tim and Jeff in the Morning on 105.7.  They were in town last week because Siloam Springs was town of the week!  I think they were shown a pretty good time.

The Car Show

Last weekend we headed out to enjoy the car show hosted by Ehrlich Motorwerks.
It was a beautiful morning and perfect for checking out neat cars.

Then we headed over to Farmer's Market for our weekly vegetables.

Bicycles

The other day I popped into Siloam Flowers and Gifts; I needed a gift for a special someone.
On my way in I couldn't help but notice this fun bike all decorated for the season.
Siloam Flowers and Gifts is a great place to pick up a gift or some flowers.

Farmer's Market Dinner

The other night our dinner was pretty much entirely from the Farmer's Market.
We had sourdough bread from The Bread Basket along with roasted potatoes and broccoli and stir-fried bok choy.
It was fresh and yummy!

Head to the Farmer's Market this morning and see if you can make a meal from the Farmer's Market.

Drawing with Mr. Davis

Did you enjoy the Dogwood Festival?
I especially enjoyed the activities hosted by the local merchants on Broadway Street.
Our family's favorite was Drawing with Rich Davis hosted by Books on Broadway.
Mr. Davis is a local artist who has illustrated many children's books.

We spent some time watching Mr. Davis draw, and then we got a drawing lesson and practiced what we learned.
It was such fun!
Books on Broadway sell quite a few books illustrated by Rich Davis.  Swing by and give them a look.

Twin Springs Park

I'm not sure exactly when the paths through the historical garden at Twin Springs Park were paved, but I'm so glad they were!
It's such a nice improvement.  My boys now refer to this garden as "the maze" and have enjoyed riding their bikes around the circle.

Swing by Fratelli's for a cup of gelato to-go and stroll down to the park to check out the new garden paths.

Moosabella's

We've been having some lovely spring evenings. They've been perfect for strolls through Downtown.
The other evening I couldn't help but notice these bright chairs at Moosabella's.  The orange is my favorite, I think.  So fun for my summer backyard.
Moosabella's has all kinds of fun items; I especially appreciate the locally handmade things.
Remember to stop in and say hello.

Dogwood Junction moved!

Dogwood Junction has changed locations.  They're now located down around the corner near Twin Springs Park.
We saw the open sign on the other day, so we headed in!
I'm so glad we did!  We had a wonderful time!
My boys are saving for kites.  We happily watched a demo for the Sting Ray Super Flyer!
Then we were invited to the back to check out the super huge kite!  This is only half of the kite.  We'd love to see this fly someday.
As we were saying our goodbyes and figuring out how much money the boys still needed to save, we were told about Dogwood Junction's collaboration with the Cafe on Broadway.

Rent a bike at Dogwood Junction while perusing the Cafe on Broadway's menu.  Pay for your bike rental and meal right there at Dogwood Junction.  They'll throw in a picnic basket and blanket for you to use.  Hop on your bike, and head north up Broadway Street...
...to the Cafe on Broadway!
The wonderful folks at the Cafe will be watching for you.
Stop your bike (but no need to hop off), and the Cafe will run out with your meal and place it in the picnic basket.
Such an easy way to enjoy a delightful spring evening in Downtown Siloam Springs.
Bike down and around the trails until you find a perfect spot to spread your blanket and eat your salad or sandwich.  I love this idea and plan to take advantage of it soon!

National Scrapbook Day

Saturday being a Farmer's Market morning, we headed Downtown.  As we headed toward the park, we couldn't help but notice this sign outside of Creative Corner on Broadway.  Owner Julie invited us in to see what was going on.
It turns out Saturday was National Scrapbook Day!
These ladies had scrapped into the wee hours of Friday night and showed up bright and early again on Saturday morning to finish their projects.  They didn't even take time to get dressed--yep, they're dedicated scrapbookers--they scrapped in their jammies.  :-)
And speaking of dedication...
I'm sure your mother is dedicated.
Hint, hint...
Have you figured out a way to appreciate Mom on Mother's Day?
It's just a few days away!  Sunday, May 13th is the day.

If you haven't thought of a gift for mom as of yet, stop in at Creative Corner on Broadway.  Julie will be more than happy to help you put together a little something.

Painting at 28 Springs

As things progress at Downtown's upcoming restaurant, I get more and more excited!
The other day I was running a few errands downtown and couldn't help but notice the flurry of activity at 28 Springs.
There seemed to be a lot of priming and painting happening.
I love the black accents against the tan building.
May 28th's grand opening cannot come soon enough!

Tuesday is Farmer's Market Day

It's been warm around here lately!  Whew!  I thought summer had come early.
Thankfully today things were a bit cooler.  Tomorrow will be as well, so head outside and swing by Downtown for the Farmer's Market.  It's open from 8am-1pm each and every Tuesday (and Saturdays, too!).

The chard has been beautiful!
Sourdough bread is perfect for toasting.
Tender lettuces are perfect with a drizzle of homemade ranch dressing.  YUM!
We've been roasting our broccoli until the tips are crunchy and then squeezing a lemon over the warm veggies.  Delicious!
Snow peas are delightful for an afternoon snack.

I'll see you Downtown!

PS: Saturday, May 12th is Kids' Day at the Farmer's Market.  There will be extra fun activities for the kiddos including a bounce house!

Featured

Recently Siloam Springs was featured as one of The 20 Best Small Towns in America on Smithsonianmag.com.  We were town number 14.  Here's what they had to say:

Along with Rogers, Arkansas, birthplace of Walmart, and Bentonville, home of the new Crystal Bridges Museum of Art, Siloam Springs is one of a handful of noteworthy towns in the scenic northwest corner of the state. At the western edge of the Ozark Mountains, it was settled by homesteaders after the Cherokee Nation was pushed along the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma, saw important frontier engagements during the Civil War like the Battle of Prairie Grove, and then attracted health-seekers who came to sample therapeutic water from 28 springs in the late 1800s. Now its sturdy, copasetic downtown is a state-recognized historic Main Street community with a park built around several still-flowing springs and plenty of Ozark Mountain dogwoods, springtime stars of a popular festival. The Sager Creek Arts Center, Siloam Springs Museum and Christian John Brown University, founded in a cornfield in 1919, bring exhibitions, concerts and lectures to a town that could model for a postage stamp commemorating the American heartland. -- SS

Pretty exciting, if you ask me!

Yum-Yum

We noticed a new booth at the Farmer's Market and decided to pay a little visit.

All kinds of delicious looking baked goods were to be found.  All baked by the friendly folks at Yum-Yum's.

We picked out three treats and headed home for a taste test.

Cranberry White Chocolate Scones were most certainly yum-yum!
As were the Scottie cookies.
But then we tried the MegaChip cookie.
They got a yum-yum, yum-yum at my house!  Oh my.  So very good!
Perhaps you'd better swing by the market and grab a tasty treat.
Please, just save a MegaChip cookie for me.

I'll see you Downtown!
