My Friend's Plate

Have you dined at 28 Springs yet?
Yum!
I've tried a few things, but there are a few more things I want to taste.

The other evening my friend Joy had dinner at Downtown's newest restaurant.   Later that evening, this picture appeared online.  I love the "28" on the dessert.  Such attention to detail.
Her pictures captured 28 Springs' presentation beautifully, so I begged for permission to use her photo.  Thanks, Joy!

Do you see those fries in the top left corner?  I haven't tried them, but I've heard they're delicious!  I'd better make a reservation and order some...for research, of course...  :-)

Olympics

Are you watching the Olympics?
We're glued to the television here at our house.
Yesterday evening we kicked off our Olympic festivities with a trip to the Cafe on Broadway.
In honour of London hosting the events, the evening's special was scones and tea sandwiches.
Yummy!

I'll see you Downtown!
(Well, maybe not today as I'm otherwise occupied...)

They've got 'em!

Do you follow Creative Corner on Broadway on facebook? They're always posting fun stuff.
This week I was thrilled to learn they have SMASH books!
I'm a fan of the SMASH book.
Never heard of one?  I'll do my best to explain.
It's basically a journal with fun pages and a loop that holds a pen/glue combo.  The idea is to "smash" all your random bits of paper memories into the book with the glue and then doodle and journal with the pen.  So fun!!!
Anyway, Creative Corner on Broadway now has mini SMASH books.  I've never seen a mini, but I'm heading down there to check them out.  After all, most things are cuter in miniature...

Saturday is coming...

Saturday is going to be a fun day Downtown!

It's Second Saturdays!

Things get started with Kids' Day at the Farmer's Market.  Along with the bouncy house and other kid-themed activities, there will be some pygmy goats to pet.  Sounds fun to me!

For those of you who head to the Farmer's Market simply for vegetables, parking can be a bit tricky on special event days.  Here's a tip: Get there before 9am; the market opens at 8, so you'll have an hour to shop.  Besides, it's cooler and there is more to choose from.  When the park starts filling up with the kiddos, head to one of the Downtown cafes for a morning coffee and pastry.

I'm quite sure the shops up and down Broadway and University Streets will have Second Saturday specials, so remember to stop in.

The day will end with a Second Saturdays concert in the park.  This month fiddler Betse Ellis will headline with an opener from Two Cents Worth.  According to the newspaper, crowds are expected.  Admission is free, but donations are welcomed.  Bring a chair and enjoy the music.  Things get started at 7:30.

The 4th Annual Dog Day of Summer

Hot off the press, here are the details for an upcoming event...

The 4th Annual Dog Day of Summer

On August 4th, dogs and their people will take to the streets of downtown Siloam Springs! The 4th Annual Dog Day of Summer, hosted by Main Street Siloam Springs, will welcome special guest emcee Brad Reed, host of Fox News Edge, for a day of dog contests, a dog parade down historic Broadway Street, pet-themed vendors, concessions, and more!

Last year’s event drew an estimated 300 participants, with over 35 dog contest registrants. “Monster”, a hairless Chihuahua breed, won the Ugliest Dog contest for the 3rd year in a row!

Participation in the parade and attendance at the park is free. To participate in contests, pet owners can pre-register for $10/first dog, and $8/each additional dog, by picking up an application at the locations listed below*, or by downloading the form online. Day-of registration will begin at 9:00am in Twin Springs Park for $12/first dog, and $8/ additional dogs.

The parade, beginning at 9:30am, will start and end in Twin Springs Park after winding up and down historic Broadway Street.

Dog Contests this year will include:
  • Cutest Dog
  • Cutest Puppy
  • Pet/Owner Lookalike
  • Best Dog Trick
  • Best Costume
  • Best All-Around

At the event, vendors will offer dog apparel for sale, treats for dogs and people, information about local dog services, and a raffle. All participants will receive Main Street’s 2012 Retail Coupon to encourage business downtown.  The event will also spotlight Tailwaggers, a local animal adoption advocacy group that highlights the need to spay/neuter pets. Dogs available for adoption will also participate in the event.

*Contest Registration forms are available at the following locations:
  • Curves Fitness for Women
  • Pink Poodle
  • Speckled Pup Center
  • Books on Broadway
  • Siloam Springs Public Library
  • The CafĂ© on Broadway
  • Siloam Springs Veterinary Clinic
  • Main Street Siloam Springs Office

The Heritage Festival

We had a wonderful time at the Heritage Festival.  There were so many things to do and see including camel rides.
We learned about basket weaving.
My boys especially enjoyed the trapper who set up camp down by the creek.  He showed us what kinds of animals we was hoping to catch.
I didn't get any pictures, but we also enjoyed the gymnastics demonstration and the Old West Shoot Out.

Mark your calendars for next year's festival!

Mayan Mocha Bread

Mayan Mocha Bread.
Chocolatey sweet with a kick of heat.
It's what I found at a visit to the Farmer's Market.
Oh my.
I may or may not have shared my loaf.
It is THAT good!
Ballard Bakery has been baking up some yummy stuff!
Here are some of their options from last week.
Ballard Bakery often shares a table with Lady Hester's Pretzels and More.
Which reminds me...I'm signing off on this post right now...
Because I need to track Lady Hester down and order more homemade corn tortillas!
You can order yours here.  Tell her how many tortillas you want, and then pick them up at the next Farmer's Market.
