A Surrey Ride

Finally, I took a surrey ride!

It was really quite fun!

Sure there was the one time I wasn't sure we were going to make it up the hill, but I remembered to change gears and things ended up just fine.

Renting from Dogwood Junction was the perfect way to show my mom, visiting from out-of-town, just how cute our Downtown really is.

Head Downtown for your ride...and then swing by Fratelli's for some gelato...because you'll have earned it.  :-)

Girls' Night Out

Last Thursday was Girls' Night Out in Downtown Siloam Springs. 

And if you didn't attend, you MISSED OUT!

I was there for a bit, but there were things I missed out on as well.

So...heads up.  Pay attention to when the next Girls' Night Out takes place and ATTEND!

Here are a few of the things I missed...and thanks to facebook, I know what I missed.

It's a customized bath and body line made just for you!  mine. was demonstrating their products at Ehrlich Motorwerks.

Siloam Flowers and Gifts had cheese!  I love cheese.  I'm sad I missed the cheese.

And Creative Corner on Broadway had door prizes.  I happen to enjoy winning free things.

Bummer for me!

I'm paying attention to when the next event takes place.

Ending on a happy note...I did take a surrey ride at Dogwood Junction.  Stay tuned for pictures.

WellFest

WellFest took place on the second Saturday in June, and was it ever fun!

There were tons of ways for the kiddos (and grown-ups) to get active and have fun.

Hopscotch, slides...

...and golf, just to name a few!

If participants managed to hit all the activities, prizes were awarded.  My two kids were most excited about the medals.

Mark your calendars--WellFest will be back next summer on the 2nd Saturday in June.

Pretty Gardens

While on a walk the other day, I couldn't help but notice how pretty the Ralph & Pauline Henry Memorial Garden looks.

The garden can be found tucked in between the library and the low water bridge on University Street.

Summer Reading Program

We're participating in the Library's Summer Reading Program, and we're having lots of fun.

Last week the theme was owls.

Dream Big is the theme for this summer.

And there are prizes!  Fill up a page of stars with your child, and he or she can win a prize!

Farmer's Market

Some of my favorite veggies are finally in season at the Farmer's Market. Tomatoes, zucchini, beets, and bell peppers made their way into my basket on my latest visit.

Most fun of all was the jar of plum jam.  YUM!  It's the perfect thing to top all the fresh bread being sold these days.  Jam + bread = perfect.  :-)  The Farmer's Market is open from 8am-1pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays in City Park.

Quilting Class

Last Saturday I took a Beginning Quilting Class at Sager Creek Quilts.  I must admit I was a little bit terrified of using the tools, but a few friends were joining me so there was no going back!

It turned out to be tons of fun, and I learned quite a bit.

Here are the fabrics I picked for my project:

Lunch was included in the class fee.  And lunch alone would have been worth every penny.  I've been around long enough to remember back to the day when the quilt shop also had a tea room.  I'm here to tell you the food is still just as delicious.  The only catch is that now, in order to get the food, one must take a class.

Dessert.  Chocolate Chip Morsel Pie...YES, PLEASE!

Here we are just quilting away!  Well, actually we're just piecing away.  Thanks to my beginning quilt class, I now know the difference between quilting and piecing.   :-)

I had a wonderful time!  Pam and Cliff made the day so enjoyable.  I learned a lot and laughed along the way.

New Awnings

The Gloria McEnroe Facade Renovation Grant is a great thing for our Downtown businesses.

This year II Gal's Junk was able to put up a new awning.  I think it looks fabulous!

And Occasions is in the middle of updating their facade as well.  It looks to me like they're getting a fresh coat of paint.

Farmer's Market is the Place to Be

As the weather warms up, the Farmer's Market only gets better! 

This past Tuesday morning we sampled Lemon Rolls and Cinnamon Rolls from BlueEye's Bakery.  YUM!

We picked up zucchini and tomatoes from one of our favorite farmers.

He had beautiful flowers along side the veggies.

My friend Joy is baking wheat bread, and it looks and smells delicious!

Some sweet girls were selling dolls all made from re-purposed materials.  They are truly works of art.

Swing by Saturday morning, rumor has it there might be fresh plum jam for sale.

There's a lot going on Downtown this coming Saturday.  Think "parks", because that's where the action is this weekend.  :-)

There's Kids' Day at the Farmer's Market in City Park...

...and Wellfest over in Bob Henry Park...

...and 2nd Saturday Music to wrap up your day in Twin Springs Park.

If you get hungry between parks, there's plenty of places to eat--Cafe on Broadway, Pour Jon's, Fratelli's, just to name a few.

If your legs get tired from walking place to place, remember there are bikes to rent at Dogwood Junction.

Let's just say that Downtown has got you covered!

Second Saturday Music

This popped into my inbox.  Forgive me for missing the May 12th event.  Never fear there are three more!

Second Saturday Music Concert Series 2012

Kicking off the 10th season of the Second Saturday Music Concert Series May 12th, will be The Old 78’s. Curly Miller and Carole Anne Rose have been playing old time and historic tunes on fiddle and banjo since 1988. Their most recent collaboration with Ray and Melanie Palmer introduces the addition of Baritone Sax, Clarinet, and Banjo-Mandolin to their varied repertoire of Classic Banjo Duets from the Early Ragtime period along with Charleston, Jug Band and Jazz music of the early 1900’s featuring a large collection of old banjos and unique instruments. With sponsorship from Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation and Whitmore Music, the concerts are held at the Twin Springs Park Gazebo on Maxwell street in Siloam Springs. Music begins at 7:30 with Two Cents Worth featuring Kent Beyette’s Ozark jig dancing. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. While there is no admission, donations are appreciated. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move across the street to Sager Creek Arts Center. Performances for the rest of the season will feature The Gallier Brothers from Springfield, Mo- June 9th, Betsie Ellis from Kansas City, Mo -July 14th and Cathy Barton & Dave Para from Boone, Mo -August 11th. Eagerly Awaiting

I'm eagerly awaiting the opening of Downtown's newest restaurant 28 Springs.  I'm not sure when exactly they're opening, but based on rumors I've been hearing, it's bound to be soon!

Yesterday evening I was looking around on facebook (have you "liked" them yet?), and saw the following photo.  Such fun to see what the building looked like in days gone by.
